The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the practice of teacher leadership in urban schools and its effect on student achievement and school culture. The study examines the factors that influence teachers effectiveness as leaders. The research examines the perceptions, roles, and practices of teachers in leadership posts to determine whether this function supports students performances and learning outcomes. The study determines whether teacher leadership initiatives enhance school reform. Teacher leadership is often described in terms of the activities in which teachers are involved and the roles they assume in schools. This study reviews the process of being a teacher leader and the behaviors centered on this role and provide current data. The study helps explain the nature of teacher leadership and the effects of collaborative school leadership -Hallinger, 2005-.
